I got two of the three pieces successfully mocked up for the gala outfit (which are hilarious in a sort of disturbing way) and got distracted by the stays & petticoat for the chemise dress. *sigh*

I found some pale banana yellow silk in my stash and it was just enough to make a petticoat. I want to get the Diderot stays sewn together by tomorrow night so I can use the holiday weekend to sew all that blessed binding.

Question for the 18c people out there - on a petti for the chemise dress, would that be fairly light or should it have some body to it? I'm using dupioni flat-lined with light cotton muslin and will pleat it back and front to tapes, but I was contemplating binding the hem with this really heavy linen/mohair velvet I have. It will have the same effect as cording it once but I don't want it to stick out too much if it's not supposed to.

What do you think?

I made my first mock-up of the Diderot stays last night and I think they came out really well. :-) Now I'll try to make a throw-away set to see how they behave with boning in them.

Any reason I shouldn't go with half-boned?

And be willing to do me a favor?

In reference to my last post, I know this outfit is in the Kyoto Fashion book(s). I was hoping they have a shot of the back of it because I can't find one online.

The Reine de Centfeuilles repro doesn't show the back. The Affair of the Neclace doesn't show the back well enoug. The Jefferson in Paris repro has a different back on it.

Yes, I ordered the 2 book set in January and still haven't gotten it. Ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

If there are other shots of it, especially one showing the shape of the "peplum" in back, I would be MOST appreciative for a scan. :-)

*Yawn*

Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody...

Well, not really. But it was another night and I ain't did no sewin'. Ever since I ordered the pink fabric for the new Venetian I can't think of anything else, so I'm not working on the PDSvN. Of course, I don't HAVE the pink fabric yet so I'm not working on that either. Then I sat down and dragged out Corsets & Crinolines to start on a set of Diderot stays for the future Chemise Dress, but I was too lazy to draft them out when I know I can scan them tomorrow at the office and scale them up in photoshop before fitting them. SO much faster. I am actually more attracted to other stays in the book but this would be my first 18c stays so I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. If I screw these up I'll be disgusted and never get to fixing them nor making the dress. *sigh* It can be painful to know oneself so well...

Bottom line, I SHOULD be drawing the pinking design on the PDSvN sleeves.

But I'm not.

If life wasn't so crazy right now I'd be at WASABI sewing, but that is not do-able either. Man, everything would be so much simpler if I didn't have to work...
