Yeah, so? I have CADD, What of it? You gonna make sumthin' out of it? huh?

PDSvN gets put aside again *sigh* because I simply can't rest (literally, I can't get to sleep at night now) until I have a Queen dress. I have been approached for the second time in a year discuss playing QE1 in rather large venues. The first time the whole deal really wasn't a reasonable return for a heavy investment of time and effort so I turned it down. This time, the deal is not sealed but I really hope I get it.

But even if I don't, I just HAVE to have a queen dress. Who wouldn't in my shoes? The funny thing is, if I DO get the gig, they have 2 queen dresses already. But they wouldn't be MINE, you see...

So, I have been collecting materials and batting around design specifics for months and I think I have most everything hammered out.

I'm going mostly for the look of this dress from the BBC ER series. This screen shot is from Naergi's site and she has many more here. I'm thinking kind of a combo between the Pelican portrait and the visit from the Dutch Ambassadors dress.

I LOVE that it's white with a dark forepart! I have just enough yardage of a lovely patterned cut cotton velvet in off-white that I'll make the dress from - of course the pic I have of it is on another computer. I am hoping to get my hands on a couple more yards of the white silk twill I bought for my Anna Meyer dress to make the trim - it has such a beautiful glow to it and the contrast with the velvet is perfect. Then I have a bajillion 4mm pearls to edge everything with and these 12mmx10mm crystals and 6mm pearls for clusters on the twill trim. I wanted pretty much everything on the dress to be white and gold so I could wear it with different sets of sleeves & foreparts.

Then the forepart will be of this sari which has a pattern in flat gold spangles very similar to the Sun Resplendent motif in several portraits. Lucky find. :-)

Under all that mess will be my pink silk effigy bodies and my silk farthingale.

The things I haven't decided on are the sleeve design. If I go with the Pelican or others from teh same 2 years, I can make an elaborate shoulder roll and a lighter bloused sleeve under it - which I am tempted to do in the red to match the forepart. But in my mind's eye I'm not sure I like the color balance of red sleeves especially if I follow the style and make the partlet red as well. If I go more with the Dutch Ambassadors like the ER dress, I could just have little peeks of the red on a mostly white sleeve. I really dislike scalloped waist tabs so I'll probably go with looped tabs instead.

So, that's the plan. The gig is in November, but even if I don't get it, I'll look FABulous in my own little queenie dress! *happy dance*

Costumer's Attention Deficit Disorder. Describes the condition wherein you cannot complete one costume before you switch to something infinitely more interesting and way kewler.

That sounds amazing! The forepart fabric especially. I'm glad you're going to make the dress either way, but I hope you get the gig. ;)

I thought so too, but the more I look at it I think it's the Ambassadors sleeves on the Pelican dress. It has those two rows of angled trim on the bodice and the scalloped tabs. I'm only doing one row of angled trim and looped tabs but I think I'm going to use those sleeves. :-)

Ooooo so pretty!

At one point, I think I said I'd have to make a dress if you did, so I could keep an eye, um, I mean, come play with you, yeah that's it! I've been wanting to make a new Elizabethan for a while now. I still have that yummy brown/teal stripe, but nothing yet to match it. I'll add it to my list of "to dos". Will you be using the embroidery frame for this one? I still really want to make an embroidered forepart.

I do not believe I need the frame for this one and I still have the forepart you started. :-) Get Stichin' girl!

I figure stitchin' is an easy one to do right now. Unfortunately, the fabric that I started is downright wrong!!! Have to start over again, darn it! I'll need to track down the legs, or find new ones too.
