Christmas Meme
...cause, you know, who has time to sew? Indeed...
1. Do you have a real or fake Christmas Tree?
Real. It's not Christmas without that smell in my home.
2. Do you put up Christmas lights on the exterior of your home?
Hmmm, 10th floor apartment with no balcony. I've been there over 10 years and haven't figured out how to even attach them to the window without using duct tape.
3. What's your favorite Christmas song/carol?
I absolutely LOVE Christmas music and play it year-round so I'm not sure I can pick a favorite. I can list the ones I hate... LOL! A few tied for first might be White Christmas, I'll be Home for Christmas, Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas (the real, sad, version), Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen, the whole CHarlie Brown Christmas record, Jingle Bells (but ONLY by Bing and the Andrews Sisters), O Holy Night (the opera singer's carol), the Christmas portion of The Messiah (no sing-alongs, please), any carol that uses the words "figgy pudding" and holds the visited party hostage... aw, hell, I love it all!
4. What do you like better turkey or ham?
ham, Ham, HAM! I like Turkey ok but it's usually not moist enough. A smoked turkey is pretty darn tasty but you'll never get me to give up ham!
5. Do you open up any Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?
I've always been a Christmas morning kinda gal, but on occasion we'll do the family Christmas at home on Christmas even, then have Christmas again with grandparents on the big day.
6. Have you ever been Christmas Caroling?
More often than I care to imagine. From gradeschool on, whatever choir I was in did it. Did it in college. Do it on occasion since then for money. I have never had to wear Dickensian clothing to do it, though, which is not a bad thing in Southern California...
7. What was your most memorable Christmas gift(s) that you received?
Hmmmmm, tough one... My mother gave me a large stained glass pegasus when I was somewhere around 15. It was all I wanted and the only time I can remember actually getting exactly what I wanted. Then there was a jewelry armoir... I dated this a**hole for a couple of years and for every gift-giving occasion he would say "I looked for a jewelry box but couldn't find one I liked" and give me nothing. I never mentioned to my hubby I really needed one, but there it was on Christmas morning. Exactly what I wanted and needed. I love him for so many reasons and that is just one of them. My jewelry box.
8. What's your favorite Christmas movie?
Again, too many to count... White Christmas, Holiday Inn, The Bishop's Wife (the Cary Grant version), A Christmas Carol (Alastair Simms, of course), Charlie Brown Christmas (you mean Christmas is about JESUS?), all those cheezy Rankin & Bass stop-motion Christmas specials, the Homecoming (wonderful movie the Waltons TV show came from), A Christmas Story (Peter Billingsly, a new classic), The Santa Clause (Tim Allen), Christmas in Vienna (Jose Carreras special he made years ago, I miss Vienna), Grinch (original, NOT Jim Carey), that's enough for now...
9. Have you ever built a real Snow-Man?
I never pass up an opportunity to play in snow! I don't want to live anywhere I have to dig my car out, but I love making snowmen, snow angels, snowball fights, sledding, snowmobiling, etc. I still don't know how to ski but it's on my list of things to do before I die.
10. Have you ever peeked into a present and found out what it was before Christmas?
I know I spent a lot of time looking for hidden gifts when I was a kid, but I don't recall secretly opening anything. On occasion I'd come across something before it was wrapped...
11. What is on the top of your Christmas tree?
A porcelain doll I turned into a tree topper. I remade the dress last year but I still need to make her wings.
12. Do you own a Santa hat?
No, but I don't know why...
13. When was the last time you had your picture taken with Santa Claus?
I don't remember ever having my picture taken with Santa. My daughter has hers done every year, though!
14. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
God no. I can't even think about it without passing out from the stress...
15. Do you put candy canes on your Christmas Tree?
Sometimes but not this year.
16. Who is hardest person to buy for?
My hubby. He is only interested in guitars but his equipment is at a point where it costs a lot to improve on anything. Let's just say not every year is a guitar year.
17. Who is the easiest person to buy for?
My daughter. She loves everything she gets, even if it's not for her!
18. How old were you when you realized Santa was imaginary?
I don't know.
19. What does your morning of Christmas routine consist of?
Coffee, coffee, and then some coffee. We don't open presents until after breakfast but everyone gets their stockings, which must have an orange in it.
20. Egg nog?
OH YEAH, BABY!!! My dad makes excellent egg nog that I think you could light on fire. I don't drink too much of it though. I prefer most of my eggnog intake to be egg nog ice cream by a small, local ice cream ARTIST!
21. What do you want for Christmas this year?
I want my family to have a wonderful time.
