Exposing my shame...

1. Unfinished project: Too many to count! :-( I am a complete slug with sewing right now so on my table are my Pfalzgrafin Dorothea Sabina von Neuberg gown (started 3/04), my Anna Meyer gown (started 4/05), my 1879 ball gown (started 9/05), and my red English gown (started 2/04), 2 1800's gowns (started 3/05), and 2 linen partlets (started sometime in 2001, ouch!).
2. Secret sewing vice: I HATE hand sewing! I will go through extra work with layers & turning etc. just to avoid having to sew anything by hand. I'm starting to get over it as I'm more willing to take longer to get things down well (ignore the list on item #1) but still...
3. Which of your sewing friends do you envy and why? Just about all of them! LOL! I love Jen Thompson's meticulous research and execution. I love Michaela de Bruce's style and the unusual gowns she reproduces. Elizabeth Chilver and Isabella, both Kentwell reenactors, make the most "clothing" like dresses I've ever seen. I turn a "strange shade of sour apple green" whenever I see their work.
4. Steal any costume: That wuld have to be Jen Thompson's Bergamesque gown. *drool* How much do I dig the trapunto and pinked doublet, along with that Istok fabric underskirt. Let's take a moment to gaze at that plum almost-black velvet gown with the mink trim. Yeah, that's the one I want.

Oh, wait, I'd also happily kill for either Isabella's 1569 Crimson gown or her 1578 Black & Red gown. Yup.

Um, I almost forgot pretty much ANYTHING by Bjarne Drews. I don't know him at all, but I'll take him down for any of his embroidered suits or gowns.

Can I have all of them?
5. WORST advice: a whole host of boning substitutions. Let's see... bent hangers, teh metal straps from hanging file folders, lucite strips, lumber banding, paint stirring sticks... just about anything other than the real coated corset boning sucks, except for cable ties. They work REALLY great and cost WAY less than metal corset boning.
6. I hate it and never wear it: That would have to be my English Surcote. I threw it together in a week when I discovered couldn't wear my favorite English gown after I got pregnant. The fabric is smashing, the pleating is perfect, the sleeves are wonderful, and it makes me look like a cow. I should add this to the list for item #1 because I have it ripped apart right now to remake it right for a film shoot - I hope to be wearing to as Robert Dudley's first wife, Amy. I get to be thrown down the stairs in it! LOL! So it'd better look good by then...
7. Costume implosion: yep. That was my very first English gown in black velveteen for a high school drama competition. It was lovely but the fabric had been donated and was rotting. I knew nothing of that and endured it's gradual disintegration throughout the day. Good thing it was relatively intact when the judging commenced...
8. You know you shouldn’t wear it: my 20's style bias cut gown. I am way too lumpy right now to wear it but I can't resist it! I am powerless over it. It is backless so I can't wear a bra and dips so low in teh back I can't wear any kind of suck-em-in garment for my hips. Like I said, lumpy.
9. Complete the sentence: I know I’m a costume whore because… I now go through months of sewing to make a gown I will only wear once, just because it would be fabulous!
10. A man or a mouse: Definitely a man! I figure that if my work collegue is there, they're an addict, too. Unless, of course it's some kind of fetish costume or somthing that I really require anonimity to wear. LOL!
