So, my little freakout with the PDSvN undersleeves has spurred me to action - it's nice that something still can! I am probably going to abandon the strapwork, at least in this incarnation. I have just enough apple silk to piece together one new sleeve panel if I am unsuccessful at removing the sloppy strapwork without ruining the base silk.

After a whole evening spent measuring, calculating, etc. all the fabrics and trims I have for this dress, I have come to the conclusion that I just won't know how much I'll have to spare for new under-sleeves until I make the damn dress. There's too much that I just can't calculate because I won't know what looks best on, say, the strips on the doublet area until I actually lay it out and play withit a bit. Then I still have to decide, after trimming the overskirt and the over-sleeves, which trim arrangement I want on the kirtle skirt. And let's not forget all the waist tabs and the collar. Only after all this is done will I know if I have any trim to spare for a new arrangement on under-sleeves, or any of the ocean silk to spare after lining the over-sleeves and as much of the trained overskirt as possible (I want to be able to kirtle it up so it's not draging all day long). Now that I think of it, that ocean silk would be great as the hat as well... hmmmmmm, there's definitely not going to be enough to use for under-sleeves, too.

My strict ideas of finishing the kirtle before moving on to the overdress was supposed to discipline me to finish something; instead it has kept me from doing anything.

So, last night I actually sat and bound all the edges on the kirtle bodice. I can attach the skirt and start drafting the doublet of the overdress and make some progress on this damned albatross.
