Few things in this world suck as much as telling a 4-year-old girl that her kitty isn't coming home. :-(

Oh geeze, that bites. I'm so sorry.

And at that age it takes a while for it to sink in. My 3 yr old still asks if our kitty is coming back. :-(

I hope it goes as well as it can.

*sniff* I'm so sorry to hear this. It always hurts to lose a kitty.

So sorry!

As the owner of many, many ferrets over the years (the fitch in my user name is a tribute to them), I've had more than my fill of saying goodbye to beloved pets. Ferrets have a very short lifespan; typically 6 to 8 years. Have you ever told your daughter about Rainbow Bridge? It has certainly helped our daughter (and to be truthful ourselves), to deal with the grief.

You don't have to be Christian to believe in Rainbow Bridge--I believe that the pets I lost are waiting for me right outside of the Summerlands. (And that explains the witch in my name.) LOL! So far we have two dogs, one parakeet, and twenty ferrets at the bridge. One of the things that we always discuss after a ferret's death is what kind of wings he/she will be buzzing around Rainbow Bridge with. We've had white feather, silver satin, and even one girl who had a powered paraglider!

I hope both you and your little girl come through this as well as you can. Would a little ceremony of sorts help do you think? I created my own when I was younger.

Give Claire a big hug for me. I'm so sorry for you guys. I've only done that once and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. Big hug for you too.

Yeah, that's rough

Best of luck in dealing with it.

My dad had to do something worse: tell his 12 year old son and his 8 year old daughter that their mom had died. Be glad you don't have to do that.

Yes, it is things like that that make me say "few things are worse" because I know there ARE worse things. :-( It is so very long ago but I am sorry for your loss as well. :-(
