Happy Happy Fabric Find!
Jan. 4th, 2007 03:57 pmWell, after
jennylafleur started her quilted petticoat, and all the ensuing talk of them and pictures posted, I fell in love. I've never done that period before but I started scheming. There's only one problem.
I don't quilt.
Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy!
I don't quilt.
I would NEVER finish such a daunting task, but I had to posses this amazing confection of clothing! I began scheming... my sister is in good with a lady who owns a quiting shop with a free-arm quilting machine. She barters and quilts freearm for ~20/sq.ft. How many feet would it be? How much would that cost? How can I have one of those skirts!
Fast forward a few months and to a completely unrelated task... looking for linens for my daughter's new big-girl bed. I gave her princess sheets to make her happy but I didn't want to stare all day at floating girl-heads in crowns, so I needed a comforter/blanket/quilt and didn't want to spend a lot of money. Her walls are a warm pink and after buying and returning two sets of bedding that were to cold-pink I headed to Marshalls. I found a wonderful creme cotton quilt in a lovely floral pattern that would look perfect in her room...
Hey, wait a minute! That's a PERIOD quilting design!!! And they were cheap! I don't know how it will ultimately work out but I went home with a king-size cotton quilt in a dark rust color for $25. SCORE! Now I may actually get my quilted petticoat! It will never be as lovely as Jenny's, nor will I have bragging rights as if I had quilted it myself, but I don't care! I don't even know if I'll have any place to wear it, and I still have to decide what to cover my top half with, but I'm just giddy about my find. :-)
Rust is not a usual color for me... They had dark red, sage green, dusty blue and creme, all of which are more usual colors for me, but the rust one was a King-size piece of fabric and was half the cost of the others because someone had stolen the sham out of the bag.
Did I mention it was $25??? Huh? Did I? I think I have my missing planned costume for CC'07. :-)
