Annoying (backdated)

I was going to make jam. I opened my new pectin. It was weird and lumpy. So no jam.

It's Ball low sugar/no sugar pectin which I haven't seen in stores. Thankfully Amazon believed I had a defective product and refunded it. I then bought more. I've been on an English muffin bread with strawberry jam kick.

Knitting

I've barely been working on it, but I'm about halfway through the back of the lacy 20s sweater. It's about ten rows an inch and you're supposed to knit for 9 inches, slightly stretched. Despite vintage sweaters usually being short waisted, I think it will be long enough on this one because of the lace band at the bottom.

Wednesday

Halfway. Work was fine. My classes are amazingly going well.

We had a fire drill today. I told the kids and told them drills were better if they knew about them. This is true. I read about it after they wouldn't tell us when a hard lockdown drill was once. It was not long after a teacher accidentally put the school in a hard lockdown which traumatized my students. And all of us! And of course there was a school shooting today. I'm glad(?) I didn't find out until after work, and I so hope the kids will be ok.

Tom!

Tom has been fully out of his cage for about a week now. He seems to be at least mostly healed. He's very much acting like it, running and jumping more than he should. I'm so relieved for him!

Monday

Monday, and another testing day. Watching six hours of kids taking a test is exhausting...

Zzz

It was a three nap weekend. *yawn*

I often wonder how people do it. I don't have much responsibility beyond work and a job that covers what I need. If I'm always so tired, what is it like for people who have responsibilities and not enough?

Knitting

I've knit a few rows today. I'll hopefully knit more. I love the lace weight yarn--it will be worth the extra stitches and rows!

Success!

Covid and flu vaccines done!

She did ask my underlying condition. Probably because it was a clinic instead of a pharmacy. Physical inactivity, clearly! I can't believe they put that as a condition. Isn't that 95% of the US?

*fingers crossed*

I have a loophole appointment for a covid shot tomorrow. Pharmacies can't give them, even with a prescription, but private clinics can, so I have a CVS Minute Clinic appointment. I half expect it to fall through.

I amazingly haven't had covid yet. I know I'll eventually get it, so boosters, please!

Tom update

Tom is currently without a cast and has a lot of freedom. His last cast was a little tight, so he bit it and needed it removed and had to spend a week in a kennel with a cone. But it's healing well, and now is just sleeping in it because Poppy and Sid are nuts at night. He's already a little more active than he should be, but he's a cat, so that's not surprising!

One inch

The sweater is one inch long, and still about 18 inches. This is good! The pattern has a 44 inch bust and claims it's for a 34-38 bust, but I don't think twelve inches (or twn or six, actually) of ease will look good, even though 20s styles are loose. Four inches seems like plenty of ease.

Of course, my hips are about 38 inches, so I'll go with the original 44 inches for the lace border. Or as close to it as the 12+2 repeat lets me. That's 24-36 stitches bigger than the bodice. I'm going to try decreasing evenly in a row above the lace. Just like the bodice, I want a seam allowance. I think that will be fine. If not, I'll just gather it. It's very lightweight, so that will work.

I've done a similar adjustment for bathing suits. Larger below the waist, smaller above. It'll give a slightly different look than the pattern, but I think it's what anyone knitting this in the 20s would've done.
